    SECURITY/TECHNOLOGY

    IRS Number: Pending

Brought back in 2024 for the first time in 5 years, the first ½ of this course is devoted to security. Beginning with an eye-opening presentation of the security risks present in computer operating systems, browsers and search engines, we illustrate the risks and then present solutions. The discussion is team taught by a 45+ year practicing CPA as well as Taxspeaker’s own security expert and IT Director Ryan Jennings. Wait, we’re not done with security though as we then discuss the risks and use of artificial intelligence in a tax office and then enter the security world of the IRS, discussing WISP’s, and providing a WISP plan template as well as remote work policies, computer & internet use policies and other useful policies. The final portion of security then address physical risks of theft, disaster and day to day operations. The remainder of the day is spent on the latest technology tools and applications that profitable firms need to use to address labor shortages, profit margins and quality. In this section we discuss (quickly) desktop/laptop/tablet/server needs as well as scanners, leading to a deeper discussion and (where time permits) demonstration of OCR form recognition, OCR direct software transfer, customer relationship manager software, electronic filing software, cloud hosted computing in SaaS, and remote work situations. Throughout the class the speakers will address practical questions and answers from the point of view of non-national firms.

    TATHT-U-00093-23-I - Update, 6 credits

What an unusual year! The 1040 Manual this year has over 50 pages of new laws and court cases including the Secure Act 2.0, clarification of 2022’s Inflation Reduction Act; the Corporate Transparency Act; clear guidance on disaster losses as a result of the fires, floods and storms of 2023, new IRS crypto-currency guidance, new estate & gift rules and IRS opening attacks on the Employee Retention Credit frauds will require six hours on our part just to cover the new stuff. We have added a whole new Day one afternoon session on tax planning for individuals to go with our “1040 hot topics” normal review. On Day two we provide the newly updated engagement letter, fee schedules and new 1040 preparer and review checklists, interview forms and 1040 check sheets. The 1040 manual is your 1,000 page electronic desktop reference guide that for nearly 10 straight years has been voted by Tax Professionals in the independent review as The Only CPE Manual to be awarded a Top Research Award. **Fingertip tax guide & printed manual are only offered for live in person seminars. If you are attending a webinar then you will receive only the PDF version of the manual. The Fingertip tax guide or a printed manual can be purchased separately. **

    1040 BOOT CAMP

IRS Number: **NOT APPROVED FOR IRS**

Several years ago, Taxspeaker’s President Bob Jennings began recognizing the lack of younger faces in live crowds around the country. He attributed it to one major problem: the failure of today’s university accounting programs to properly educate students that 50% of the US economy is driven by small business while training students exclusively for “Big 4” employment as, essentially, taxpayer-funded Big 4 training programs. Our solution was to develop a “1040 Boot Camp” to train non-traditional employees in how to prepare individual income tax returns as taught by actual small-firm owning, professional speaker tax professionals. The course has proven to be extraordinarily popular since we started it in 2019. Each speaker is a firm owner with at least 20 years experience. Designed for the staff person with 0-3 years of experience it provides hands-on training for non-traditional employees in preparing Forms 1040, A,B,C,D, E and depreciation. Each day ends with a student’s manually-prepared 1040, which is then explained individually (but not graded or picked up) by the professional instructors. Attendees in 2023 commented that they were afraid of the case study but found it exhilaratingly useful, and that the training was immediately useful. ***Not applicable for CPE credit***
